Why do you write?

...for publication?

...for others to read? (possibly bunnies.)

...because you can't not write, no matter how infuriating it may be?

...to express yourself?

...because it keeps you sane?

...or just because you want to be a glamorous, classy, really-ridiculously-good-looking author?

...or a combination of these things?
Do share!

to express myself. either through my blog or my personal journal. and bc it keeps me sane. and sometimes, when its articles and things, for others to read especially to educate people. and in regards to my own book- for publication!

To express myself. If other people want to read my stuff and enjoy it, but I write first and foremost to express myself.

Where in the world did you find so many perfect pictures?! Holy cow, I'm impressed! Writing? Yeah, yeah... but those pictures! ;-)

What a question... And what an answer: simply p-e-r-f-e-c-t.

By the way, I think I write because everything you've said. Ok, except for wanting to be classy, really-ridiculously..., that would be a huge nonsense ;)

I write for Karma. And at the risk of sounding sadsy-wadsy, the truth is kind of funky. My mother had bi-polar disorder with mild schitzophrenia. Imagine growing up with that... Life was colorful and surreal.

I wanted to tell people about my freakish experiences growing up, but I was too afraid NORMAL people would be terrified by them, and Mom couldn't help her bizarre-ness. So I kept my mouth shut and let the world rain its multi-faceted weirdness down on me.

When Mom died in 2007, it was like a dam broke. I wrote five fictional novels in one year--each one adorned with colorful splatters of my life with Mom. I never knew I had so much karma to work through, but there you go.

And the novels keep coming. A whole lifetime of freaky, bizarre stories that somehow need told. I may spend as much time creating imagined novels as I once spent living their schitzophrenia-induced actual-world counterparts.

For me it's a combo of because I have to and because it keeps me sane (I think those two go hand in hand. I'm compelled to write, if I don't feed my addiction to words I go a bit insane. It works in my mind anyway).

I always love the pictures you post, Steph :)

Because I love it. I may have nothing of value to express, and I might not be able to pay the bills with it...but I can die happy knowing that writing made things better. always.

I agree, I write to express myself.

What better way is doing that than with words?

Oh yeah- Steph you have an award on my blog!

I write because the voices in my head would drive me crazy if I didn't write. lol!

Almost all tips say to write for yourself, but I can't! I need others to read and tell me that what I've written is good--or isn't--or I can't even find the courage to open up Microsoft Word. I write for people, not myself.

I write because it helps me think. Writing is an act of discovery: about the world, about people, about myself. I like the puzzle aspect too, the satisfaction of solving structural problems.
